FAQ — decks & covered decks
Answers adapted from Expedeck’s product and FAQ guidance for landings, larger decks, and covered decks. Confirm final details with Serious Sheds for your site.
Landings (like The Welcome)
What is The Welcome?
A robust 4×4 wood landing with up to 5 steps and code-compliant safety railings—built to replace rotting stairs or unstable stoops at front doors, mudrooms, and side entries.
Which configuration should I choose?
Pick landing height (commonly 21″ or 28″) and stair direction: left, straight, or right as viewed from outside facing the doorway. Ask us for a free fit review if you’re unsure about measurements.
How soon could a landing arrive?
Pre-built wood landings are typically estimated around five business days from order cutoff (estimate, not a guarantee). Holidays, remote addresses, carrier delays, and site access can affect timing. Larger deck installs follow a separate schedule.
Where can landings ship?
Select 4×4 landing packages may include free shipping in the lower 48; Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories are outside that offer. Confirm shipping vs. local delivery/install with our team for your address.
What warranty applies to a wood landing?
Expedeck’s 4×4 wood landings include a 5-year workmanship warranty (written terms available on request). Composite deck warranties are separate.
Larger decks & covered decks
How long does a larger deck installation take?
Larger projects typically follow a 14-business-day delivery and installation timeline, with installation usually taking less than one day. Scope, site access, and permits determine the confirmed schedule. Where a 14-day installation guarantee applies, the clock starts after the required permit is issued.
Can you cover my deck for rain / year-round use?
Yes. Covered decks turn the space into a “365-day outdoor living room.” Expedeck installs simple, modern slant-roof covers that are independent from your house structure so weather doesn’t shut down weekends outdoors. Ask us about covered-deck options when you inquire.
What materials are available?
Pressure-treated wood (classic brown board look) and durable composite decking (e.g. popular colors like Pebble Gray) with minimal maintenance. Railings include wood and black aluminum options on the perimeter and stairways for safety and code compliance.
Do you build for manufactured or mobile homes?
Yes. Decks are designed for many home types—including double-wides and manufactured homes—with attention to realistic fit against siding and skirting. Freestanding modules also work for ADUs, rentals, and many RV/park-model setups.
What warranty applies to composite decks?
Composite decks include a 25-year workmanship warranty, separate from the 5-year wood-landing workmanship warranty. Ask for written terms for your product.
Site prep, access & permits
Will it fit / what does my yard need?
Because decks arrive as factory-built sections: (1) clear path from driveway to install spot at least as wide as the module (narrow gates can often use split modules, min ~4′—plan this early); (2) slope no steeper than about 1 foot drop per 10 feet for standard adjustable jacks (steeper sites may need custom posts); (3) firm, stable ground—not marshy soil, fresh uncompacted fill, or septic/drain fields without special engineering. Also check overhead clearance, vents/spigots/outswing doors, and setbacks.
What about permits?
If your city requires a permit, Expedeck can provide a stamped engineering packet for the deck structure; you take it to the municipality. Site-specific items (site plan, survey, geotech) are typically the homeowner’s responsibility—or available as an add-on. If a permit is required, the 14-day install clock starts after the permit is issued.
