Site Preparation
Site preparation differs for sheds and metal buildings. Let us know about your location and access early so we can help plan the right approach.
Shed sites: bare earth is OK
Sheds can be placed on bare earth. We can level the building as long as the site is no more than 36 inches out of level from end to end.
Many customers choose to place 2–3 inches of 5/8-minus gravel first, or provide concrete blocks for us to place under the building. The customer provides any blocks.
Metal buildings: level site required
Metal buildings need a square, level site ready for installation. Complete any needed grading, drainage, gravel, concrete, or other surface work before the scheduled installation date.
Plan access and working room
For delivered sheds, make sure the truck and trailer can safely reach the final location. For on-site work, leave enough room for installers and materials; metal projects generally need at least 2 feet of workspace around the structure.
Protect utilities and overhead clearances
- Identify underground utility lines before anchors or other ground work.
- Maintain at least 10 feet of clearance from overhead power lines, or coordinate a safe solution before installation.
- Tell us about gates, fences, trees, slopes, narrow driveways, and tight turns early in the planning process.
Foundations and permits
Foundation needs and permit requirements depend on your jurisdiction, building type, size, and intended use. Check with your local planning or permitting authority before ordering; the property owner is responsible for required permits.
